Rust-o-ration.

I've been trying to scrub all the rust and paint the engine bay for months now. I'm averaging 2 hours of work a month on this project, I just never have the time now. Damn shame because the weather is good so I can work out on the driveway. Anyhow I finally decided to just do a slop job and sand away all the major rust and then spray over whatever else is left in this cool gloss machine grey paint. I had this thing where I'd sand away, then i'd run out of time and not primer it, come back to it a month later and have to sand away even more rust. So now its all painted up, finally. these pictures look like crap but you get the idea. It turns out that the sheet metal that hides the windsheild wipers and crap is totally rusted out. Its one of those things where there's just no good place to stop.. so now I just have a big gash up there from my angle grinder where I tried to clean up the rusted out section. We'll call it a speed hole until I figure out some fancy way to deal with it properly.

Basically the area below that big gash (under the heater hose) is rusted out from leaves and other junk sitting there over the last few decades. Note to self... clean out the cowl area on all my cars religously.

Welp, there it is enameled. There shouldn't be any more drainage problems with that big 6"x1/4" speed hole now! I also spent a good hour today sanding away rust on a brake booster I pulled from one of those e21's I parted out. It's a little shorter and supposed to help with the s14 intake clearance. The rust is just on the surface. looks like brake fluid had been leaking a bit down it and corroded some of the metal. After spending an hour sanding away rust by hand I cleaned the whole thing up with denatured alcohol and shot it with some cheap black spray and it turns out that there's oil or brake fluid still on it... the paint didn't take very well. I'll probably just use it to mock up the system and if it all fits in well I'll look for a cleaner one. I guess the next task should be to slap a m10 oil pan onto the s14 block and to finish mounting the Saab TPS sensor to the throttle bodies... stay tuned until next month. I also got the little paper gasket for the differntial cover and I've had new CV boots ready to go so I guess I can put together the e21 LSD rear end.
